The battle for second spot in Group B of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup will take centre stage today at 3:30 p.m. when Camperdown and Waterford meet in return-leg action at Bellevue playing field.

Both teams trail Jamaica College, who lead the group with maximum 12 points from four matches. Camperdown are second with seven points, while Waterford are on six.

St Jago and Mona, who will meet at Mona in the group’s other fixture, round off the standings with four and zero points, respectively.

“We anticipate a difficult game as when we met Waterford in the first round they were a very tough team,” said Camperdown coach Christopher Bender.

“But my team knows the magnitude of the game and need for us to accumulate points,” he added.

Camperdown won the first leg at Waterford 1-0.

KEY PLAYERS

Among those who are expected to play lead roles in Camperdown’s quest are defenders Najai Gordon and Akeem Dawson, and goalkeeper Rainford Howell.

They will, however, be without inspirational captain Romario Ward, who is serving a red-card suspension.

Waterford, on the other hand, will be looking for outstanding performances from midfielder Rakeem Small, forward Shane Watson, and defender Romar Gordon.

“We are definitely looking to secure three points, and if we can’t get three we hope to take one,” said Waterford coach Jermaine Thomas.

“They (Camperdown) are not a bad team, but we saw where we went wrong in the first match, and once we remain organised and disciplined we should do well.”
