Seven more schools, led by two-time defending champions Clarendon College, booked their spots in the lucrative Round of 16 of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Clarendon College, Cornwall College, St Elizabeth Technical, Garvey Maceo, Kemps Hill High, Manchester High, and McGrath High joined previous qualifiers Frome Technical, Happy Grove High, and Glenmuir High to make it 10 teams through to the ‘third round’.
After losing their opening game in the round to Glenmuir High, Clarendon College scored back-to-back wins, beating Titchfield High 2-0 on Tuesday to improve to seven points and take the runner-up spot in Group 7.
Cornwall College struggled to break down out-of-competition Spot Valley High but ended strong with four goals in the final 13 minutes, led by a brace from national Under 14 player Corlando Morris, to beat Spot Valley High 4-0 at Jarrett Park in their Group 1 game.
Nickane Brown gave Cornwall College the lead in the 77th minute. Morrison added two quick goals in the 83rd and 84th minutes, while Raphael Palmer got the fourth, his first on the season, in the 88th minute.
Cornwall College finished second in the group with five points, two behind Kemps Hill High, which edged Rusea’s High 1-0 in their game.
STETHS had to work hard to beat Mannings School 3-0 in Sav la Mar. Jordan Blake gave them the lead in the 60th minute, Justin McPherson made it 2-0 in the 79th minute, and Henry Johnson got the third goal in the 88th minute.
STETHS topped Group 3 on goal-difference over Manchester High, both on seven points after Manchester High edged William Knibb Memorial 1-0 in Mandeville.
Garvey Maceo hammered hapless St Mary High 5-0 to place second in Group 8 on goal difference behind McGrath High, who outscored Christiana High 3-2, both teams finishing on seven points each.
