Cornwall College opened their quest for their 13th ISSA DaCosta Cup title with a hard-fought and underwhelming 2-0 win over hapless Maldon High in their Zone A game played at Cornwall on Wednesday.

Playing without influential midfielders Tavar Hemmings and Kamali Powell and playing with 10 men after Dane Buckley was sent off, Cornwall did enough to see off Maldon High who lost all seven games played last season.

Braxton Richards in the first half and Jaden Jumpp in the second were the scorers for Cornwall who topped Zone A on goal difference after Irwin high edged St James 1-0 at Jarrett Park.

Meanwhile, former champions St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS), Petersfield High and McGrath High recorded back-to-back wins in their games also played on Thursday.

Dantay Campbell and Jeffrey Henry got on the score sheet as STETHS beat Lacovia High 2-0 at STETHS to improve to six points and move past Maggotty High back to the top of the table in Zone E.

Robinho Dunn bagged a double for Petersfield High as they beat Grange Hill 4-1 while Raheem Kerr and Clinton Beckford also got on the score-sheet for the winners.

The win saw Petersfield join Manning’s School on six points at the top of the table in Zone D.

McGrath High also had a 4-1 win over Ewarton High in Zone K to join Dinthill Technical on six points.

Munro College scored their first win of the season, 1-0 over former Ben Francis KO winner BB Coke, Godfrey Stewart is still unbeaten with a 4-1 win over Belmont Academy and Enid Bennett edged Ewarton High 1-0.

In Zone C Cedric Titus High were 4-1 winners over  Muschett High while Herbert Morrison and Spot Valley were goalless.
