St. Catherine High aiming to defend their Walker Cup title after a dramatic penalty shootout win against Excelsior High.

Excelsior High took the lead through J. Simms in the 36th minute after a defensive error by St Catherine High. The eagles looked the better team and took their lead into the half time break.

The second half reminded the fans why it’s a game of two halves as St Catherine came out scorching hot. N. Ellis with a screamer from about 23 yards out brought the Preces back into the game and leveled the score at 1-1.

Full time result was 1-1 and we entered the dreaded penalty shootout. Drama, comedy along with tears and pain followed as both teams missed their first three penalties. St Catherine High broke the omen as they bagged the first penalty of the game and secured their spot in the final with a 2-1 penalty shootout win.

The first semifinal saw Mona High demolish Kingston Technical in what was a one sided affair. Mona ran away comfortable victors by 5-0 and sets up a third game of the season against St Catherine High. Mona High secured their first schoolboy football final appearance without even having to break a sweat.

The Walker Cup final will be played on Saturday, January 22nd at the Stadium East football field at 1PM.
