Kingston College dethroned ISSA Manning Cup champions Jamaica College after beating their long-time rivals 5-4 on sudden death penalties in the final played at stadium east on Saturday.

In a repeat of the 1975 finals, KC prevailed to lift the Manning Cup for a 16th time after the two evenly matched teams had played out an exciting 1-1 draw in regulation time and were locked at 4-4 after the first five kicks in the shoot out.

Kingston College’s goalkeeper David Martin rose to the occasion when he saved Jaheim Fraser’s kick as Jamaica College lost on penalties for the second time this season after they had gone down to Dinthill Technical in the semi-finals of the Champions Cup two weeks ago.

Christopher Pearson, who transferred from Munro College to KC, gave his team the lead after 29 minutes, volleying home a cross from Jaheim Johnson on the right-wing.

Jamaica College equalized in the 43rd minute when captain Duncan McKenzie’s sweetly struck left-footed free-kick beat goalkeeper Martin and flew into the goal.

The teams scored their first two spot-kicks before Pearson’s kick was saved but Kingston College got back on level terms when Giovanni Mittoo skied his shot over the crossbar.

In sudden death, Demario McCarthy scored for Kingston College but Fraser missed.
