KC and JC to meet in 2022 Champions Cup final
Former champions Kingston and Jamaica College will meet in the finals of the ISSA Champions Cup on December 10 after contrasting wins in Saturday’s semi-finals at the national stadium.
In a repeat of the 2019 Champions Cup final, Kingston College beat Clarendon College 4-2 with Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richard scoring all four goals, while in a repeat of the 2019 Manning Cup final, Jamaica College beat St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) 5-4 on penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Just days after their painful elimination from the Manning Cup by STATHS, Kingston College rallied to end Clarendon College’s hold on the Champions Cup as Richards took his goal tally for the season to 29.
Clarendon College, who struggled in their DaCosta Cup semi-finals against Manning’s School on Wednesday, lost for the first time all season while Kingston College stayed on course for a third hold on the Champions Cup after winning in 2017 and 2019.
Richards scored in the 14th and 23rd minutes to give Kingston College a 2-0 halftime lead and all but won the game when he added goals in the 51st and 58th minutes.
Clarendon College rallied for two goals as Keheim Dixon pulled one back in the 64th minute and Daniel Clarke scored another in the 77th minute to give them some hope.
Jamaica College battled to a 1-1 draw with STATHS before the game went to penalties as they qualified for their fourth Champions Cup final after winning the first one in 2014.
The win ended a good week for the ‘Dark Blues’ after they had beaten Mona High in the Manning Cup semis earlier in the week.
Alec Benny scored in the 26th minute to give Jamaica College the lead, but Andre Salmon equalized in the 45th minute, just before the halftime break.
Romain Blake, Renson Sayers, Kevaughn Wilson, Maquan Aldridge and Tarick Ximines scored for Jamaica College in the penalty shoot-out.
Shakeone Satchwell, Omar Reid, Delaney Whyte, and Namar Nelson scored for STATHS while Alexiever Gooden hit the crossbar with his attempt.
