Defending Champions, St. George’s College will continue their quest for fifth Manning Cup title in six years. They take on many time Champions Calabar High in the first game of double header at 1pm at Prison Oval.
The Light Blues have already qualified for the Walker Cup Semi-Finals and have only lost once this season at the hands of Charlie Smith; should come out firing on all cylinders to get the all-important win.
Calabar who finished second in Group A will be no push over to say the least and should give the Neville “Bertis” Bell team a good fight. The Green and Black clad boys who scored a total of 16 goals while conceding 5 in the first round, will need to put on their scoring boots in order to penetrate the tough St. Georges defense. Look for a well-played game in this encounter as every possession will be critical.
Camperdown vs. Spanish Town
In the Night cap at 3pm, many time champions, Camperdown who last lifted the coveted Manning Cup in 1982 will start their quest to quench this long 31 year drought when they take on Spanish Town.
Camperdown qualified as one of the best third place teams with an impressive 29 goals scored and conceding 10 from 6 wins, two losses and two draws. Spanish Town on the other hand qualified by winning Group F with six wins, one loss and a draw.
Only the Group winners will advance to the Semi-Final stage of the Manning Cup, which means starting out with a win in this phase of the tournament is paramount. Defense should be the number one priority of both teams and one mistake can be detrimental.
