The quarter final round of the ISSA DaCosta Cup got into high gear today, Wednesday, October 29, 2014 with seven games on the schedule.
In Zone P, Glenmuir, made it two for two defeating Lacovia in the process 3-1 in the curtain raiser at STETHS sports complex. They are now positioned as the favorites to advance from Zone P.
In the other encounter, Cornwall College used a last minute goal to defeat a stubborn Old Harbour team 2-1. In spite of this win, the many time champions only moved one place up to third place. Lacovia hold the second place spot with goal difference.
Only one game was played in Zone Q. Dinthill cemented their place at the top, by defeating Godfrey Stewart 2-1 at the former home ground.
Manchester will take on Kemps Hill at Juici Beef Sports Complex, in their rescheduled game tomorrow Thursday, October 30, 2014.
Petersfield was in a goal scoring frenzy today, they demolished the Trelawny based Cedric Titus High 9-2. By virtue of this win, they are atop zone R leading defending champions STETHS on goal difference.
STETHS dismissed St. James High, 2-0, and are in second place. The defending champions will be in a dogfight against Petersfield at the STETHS Sports Complex on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Petersfield only need a draw to dethrone STETHS. Look for an interesting match up when the dust is settled next week, we will know if we will be crowing a new champion.
At the start of the season, Patrick ‘Jackie’ Walters in many local media outlets, spoke about the great chance his Clarendon College team lifting the coveted DaCosta Cup title. In this round, they seem quiet contended on doing just that. They are taking care of business and today was no different. They defeated a depleted Garvey Maceo team 3-2 to stay on top of Zone S.
Even though a draw will be enough when they play Frome next week, this team will be all out looking to secure the semi-final spot in style.
Frome, the second place team on four points, we held to a 1 all draw with Marcus Garvey in the only tie contest of the day.
Marcus Garvey, and Garvey Maceo, are statistically eliminated with one and two points respectively from two games, will face each other in a game of only academic interest.
