Kingston College (KC), Charlie Smith and Wolmer’s High are the only schools with 100 percent win records as the second round of the Flow/ISSA Manning Cup got going earlier this week.
KC following their 2-0 win over Waterford High have won all their five games and are on top of Group G with 15 points. The famed Purples have scored 13 goals while conceding just once. Camperdown High with massive 9-0 win over Campion College remained in second spot with 12 points from five games and both teams are well on their way to the second round of the competition. Jose Marti High are third on six points but have a game in hand.
Charlie Smith with maximum 12 points from four games is the second school not to have dropped a point in this year’s competition and they hold a four point lead over Holy Trinity High on eight points. It will be a close battle for the second spot in Group D as both St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) and St Mary’s College are on seven points in what will be an intense battle by three teams. Wolmer’s with four wins from four games are joint top of Group E with 12 points along with St Jago High who have played a game more. Bridgeport High are third with nine points while Mona High and Kingston High are out of contention for a second round spot on three and zero point respectively.
Meanwhile, it was sweet revenge for title favourites St George’s College (STGC) as they whipped Innswood High 5-0 at Winchester Park in Monday. Earlier in the season, Innswood registered a 2-1 home win but the Light Blue avenged that defeat and jumped to the top of the Group on goal difference. Both teams are on 15 points from six games. National Under-17 player Alex Marshall bagged a three timer while captain Shevon Stewart, who missed a penalty, scored twice. STGC have rattled in a competition’s high 26 goals while conceding twice for an impressive plus 24 goal difference.
Denham Town with 10 points are in third spot and are still harbouring thoughts of advancing from the Group C while Ardenne are fourth on seven points.
Defending champions Jamaica College are fully in control of Group A after dismissing Calabar High 4-1 on Monday to be on 13 points from five games. Calabar are second on eight points while St Catherine High are third on six points. In Group B, Hydel High are running away with top honours on 16 points from six games and hold a six point advantage ahead of Haile Selassie High and Dunoon Technical on 10 points each. Greater Portmore High are fourth on eighth points with Papine High still in the hunt on seven points in fifth place.
In a close battle in Group F, Jonathan Grant on 15 points hold a two-point lead ahead of Vauxhall High with 13 and Excelsior High on 12 points. Former champion Norman Manley are fourth on eight points in which any two of the top four can advance to the next round.
