The quarterfinals of the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup football competition for rural area high schools got off to an explosive start on Wednesday with no fewer than three upset results.
Lacovia High School continued their fairy tale run with a late come from behind 2-1 shocker over Manchester High at STETHS; Dinthill Technical upset defending champions Clarendon College 2-1 in Clarendon Park while Rusea’s High outscored Glenmuir High 3-2 at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.
At the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz, Manchester High led from a first half goal from Romaine Walsh before the St Elizabeth school rallied with two late goals.
Brandon Robinson got the equaliser in the 84th minute before Nikoy Blake scored a free-kick in stoppage time to give them all three points.
At Clarendon Park, Dinthill Technical High shocked defending champions Clarendon College 2-1 as the prolific Rodave Murray and Leonard Hibbert both scored for the Linstead based school who are on track to return to the semi-finals in successive seasons. They are tied on three points in Group S with Rusea’s High who ambushed Flow Super Cup quarterfinalists Glenmuir High at Jarrett Park.
National Under 17 representative Dushane Beckford scored twice as Rusea’s High came from behind to beat Glenmuir High who had come from behind to beat Kingston College at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Saturday in the Super Cup.
Javon Barnes also scored for Rusea’s High while Kevon Lambert and substitute Leroy Bryant scored for Glenmuir High. Romero Wright, Shawn Genus, Neville Morgan and Michael Kerr scored for STETHS as they beat Marcus Garvey Technical 4-2 at Drax Hall to take the lead on Group R on goal difference over Vere Technical who beat Mannings School 1-0 at Wembley in Clarendon.
Paul Bogle High edged St James High 1-0 to be joint leaders in Group P on three points while Petersfield and Seaforth drew 1-1 as all four teams in Group Q are on one point each after Lennon High and Port Antonio had drawn 0-0 a day earlier.
