Defending champion Jamaica College (JC) will once again put their all-island Flow ISSA Super Cup title on the line when they tackle Wolmer’s Boys at 4:00pm before title favourites St George’s College (STGC) play St Jago at 6:00 pm at Sabina Park.
JC who won the inaugural competition last year when they defeated Holy Trinity High and pocketed $1m in total, faces a Wolmer’s team that eliminated them from the Walker Cup, a team that could eliminate them from the Manning Cup on Monday and a team that will certainly be looking to eliminate them from the Super Cup.
Wolmer’s Boys could be JC kryptonite, something the Dark Blues will want to make sure doesn’t happen and having been booted out of the Walker Cup, JC will have revenge on their mind setting the stage for an epic battle.
Despite the loss of Junior Flemmings and Raffique Bryan, JC have been doing quite well although coach Miguel Coley has been bemoaning the their profligacy in front of goal. Ronaldo Brown, Donovan Dawkins, Jamar Purchell, Donovan Segree, Maurice Wilson and captain Allando Brown will be the main players for JC.
The Vassell Reynolds-coached Wolmer’s has the psychological advantage and with one of the tightest defences in the competition, they will be hard to break down and could repeat their success over JC. The likes of Jahwani Hinds, Rojay Smith, Rivaldo English, Defano Smith, Alphanso Gooden, Prince McGilvery and Ramone Lewis should make this game an intriguing one.
In the second encounter, red hot St George’s College and St Jago high will meet for the third time this season. The Light Blue have won both games and should confirm their superiority over St Jago this season.
But with niggling injuries to both captain Shevon Stewart and Dominic James, St George’s could be a little vulnerable. However, with the calibre players like Alex Marshall, Gregory Messam Jnr, Paul Young Jnr, Hakim Williams and Stephan Gilzene, should be enough to carry them to victory.
St Jago which lost 2-3 and 0-3 to the Light Blues must have revenge on their minds as they hunt a spot in the final of the Super Cup. Captain Romario Douglas, Ryan Smart, Shaqon Bryan, Hayden Street and Jovan Thomas should be the main players for the monk Street Boys as they look to halt a two-game losing streak to St George’s.
It should be an interesting day of football between four quality teams with defending champion JC and St George’s fancied to advance.
