St Catherine High created football history today after qualifying for the final of the ISSA Walker Cup KO, their first-ever football final after beating nine times former champions St George’s College 5-4 on penalties in their semi-finals at the Stadium East Field.
The teams had played out a 1-1 regulation time before the Spanish Town based school won and will meet Excelsior High in the November 29th final.
Excelsior returned to the final in back to back season after outscoring Camperdown High 4-3 in a thriller.
St George’s College who just missed the semi-finals of the Manning Cup on goal-difference and lost in the quarter-finals of the Champions Cup when they lost to Cornwall College, took the lead through Shantamoi Taylor in the 40th minute before Javaughn Cole levelled for St Catherine in the 64th minute.
They failed to break the deadlock and in the shoot out a miss by St George’s College’s Tahj Hylton made the difference.
Excelsior who will make a second attempt to win their eighth Walker Cup title as the team shared seven goals with the first three coming in a five minutes span in the first half which ended in a 2-2 scoreline.
Rojaughn Joseph gave Excelsior the lead in the 15th minute but Camperdown leveled from the penalty spot through captain Giovanni Laing two minutes later.
Junior Parker restored Excelsior’s lead in the 20th minute but once again Camperdown drew level when Shawn Daley scored in the 37th minute.
Camperdown took the lead for the first time in the game when Tivelle Edwards scored in the 63 rd minute but Jhevan Smith got Excelsior back on level terms at 3-3 when he scored in the 70th minute before Daniel Clarke got the winner in the 85th minute.
