Garvey Maceo High’s ISSA DaCosta Cup title defence could end as early as Friday unless they beat Manchester High by two clear goals in their final match in the Round of 16 stage.
The champions have one point after two games in Group 1 and are at the bottom of the tables and must win and get help from the other game on Friday if they are to continue the defence of their title.
On Tuesday, they were upset 1-0 by high flying Central High in their game played at Foga Road High after being held 0-0 by Christiana High in their first game on Saturday.
James Gallimore scored a 75th-minute winner for Central High as they moved to four points, the same as group leaders Manchester High who beat Christiana High 2-1 at Brooks Park with Jamar Brown scoring both goals.
Tuesday’s loss was Garvey Maceo’s first in the daCosta Cup since the 2019 season and they have failed to score a goal in their last two games after scoring 44 in their previous 11 this season.
Manchester High leads on goal-difference and a draw on Friday would be enough to see them through to the last eight.
William Knibb is a point away from the quarterfinals after winning back to back games in Group 2, edging Cornwall College 1-0 at Drax Hall and are on six points.
Mark Lewis scored the game’s only goal as William Knibb Memorial extended their run of games without conceding a goal to 12 straight.
Dinthill Technical returned to winning ways, beating Paul Bogle High 2-0 at York Oval to edge past Cornwall College on goal-difference, both on three points.
