With Clarendon College and Frome Technical taking the first two spots in the quarterfinals of the ISSA daCosta Cup, the race for the other six places will heat up as the Round of 16 draws to a close Friday and Saturday.
The two former winners booked their spots in the final eight after wins over York Castle High and Rusea’s High respectively in their Round of 16 games played on Wednesday, racking up back to back victories to move to an unassailable six points.
After falling behind early, Clarendon College rallied to beat York Castle High 2-1 at Drax Hall while Frome Technical edged Rusea’s High 1-0 at Llandilo Sports Complex in Westmoreland.
York Castle was gifted the lead over Clarendon College in their game after Adrian McNeil scored an own goal in the seventh minute. Clarendon responded with goals from Christopher Hull in the 26 th minute and Devonti Hodges in the 37th minute.
Stevaughn Spence scored in his third straight game for Frome Technical who edged Rusea’s High 1-0 in the third meeting between the two schools this season.
Manning’s School and Glenmuir High moved to within a point of securing their spots after they drew 0-0 in their top-of-the-tables Group 4 game played at Glenmuir.
Both are on four points and another draw on Saturday would see them through.
The other Group 4 game between St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) and Edwin Allen ended in a 1-1 draw, Dontae Campbell had given STETHS the lead from the penalty spot before central defender Kimolar Feron scored the equalizer for Edwin Allen.
