The quarterfinals of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition were completed on Saturday as the drama unfolded at two venues in Clarendon as two top teams, last season’s winners Garvey Maceo High and former champions Glenmuir High were knocked out.
Manchester High, Edwin Allen, and Mannings School took the three remaining spots for the quarterfinals that are set to start on Wednesday.
They will join Central High, Dinthill Technical, William Knibb Memorial, Clarendon College, and Frome Technical in the top eight.
After a loss and a draw and without scoring a goal in their previous two games, Garvey Maceo had to beat Manchester High by two goals at Wembley but had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw as their title defense grounded to an end.
Manchester High topped the group over Central High who had qualified on Friday, by scoring more goals after both finished with five points and a plus one goal-difference.
Edwin Allen High ambushed Glenmuir at Foga Road as the former champions needed only a draw but were beaten 2-0, their first loss of the season.
Kimolar Fearon and Alwayne Bryan scored for Edwin Allen as both schools ended with four points and zero goal difference but Edwin Allen had three goals for Glenmuir High’s two for and joined Mannings School who won the group with seven points.
All three goals at Llandilo came in the second half as Shamar Hamilton gave Manning’s the lead in the 55th minute and Jhamaleek Porter doubled the advantage in the 67th minute before Antwon Smith pulled one back for STETHS in the 81st minute.
Meanwhile, Clarendon College beat Frome Technical to top Group 3 with nine points as Frome lost for the first time this season while York Castle High came from a goal down to beat Rusea’s High 2-1 in Lucea.
