Clarendon Neighbours Clarendon College and Glenmuir High have set up back to back finals after winning their respective ISSA Champions Cup games over Hydel High and Kingston College respectively at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Three days after they won their ISSA/Wata DaCosta Cup semi-finals on penalty kicks, Clarendon College beat Manning Cup finalists Hydel High 2-0 before Glenmuir High beat Kingston College 5-3 on penalty kicks after they drew 1-1 in regulation time.
It was only the second time in the history of the competition that two DaCosta Cup schools will meet in the final after Clarendon College beat Dinthill Technical in the 2021 final.
It was Kingston College’s second straight semi-final loss on penalties after they rallied from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Hydel High then lost on penalties last week.
Kaheim Dixon came up big for Clarendon College with goals in the 19th and 87th minutes as they stayed on course to become the first rural area team to win the all-island title twice.
Hydel failed to get a ball that came back off the cross bar, out of their area and Dixon pounced on it and fired it back past goalkeeper Tajarie Lee.
He returned late in the second half to secure the win when he fired a shot from the right side of the 18 yards box into the far corner.
Brandon Wallace sent Glenmuir High into the lead in their game when he fired a long range rocket past Kingston College’s goalkeeper Malique Williams.
Kingston College responded two minutes later when Darnel Edwards’ shot deflected off a Glenmuir defender and flew into the near right side, leaving the Glenmuir High goalkeeper Antwone Gooden flatfooted.
Both teams came close to taking the lead in the second half, hitting the crossbars from close range but they ended 1-1.
In the shootout Kingston College’s Jaheim McLean’s shot was tipped over the bar by Gooden to tip the scale in Glenmuir’s favour.
Kyle Gordon, Orane Watson, O’Neil Headley, Ja-son Whyte and Wallace all scored for Glenmuir High while Robert Seow, Damario Dailey and Alex Hislop scored for Kingston College.
