The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has issued a strong warning that it will not tolerate acts of indiscipline against match officials after imposing bans on Dinthill Technical daCosta Cup players and placing the school on probation for three years.
Following Thursday’s meeting of the Disciplinary Committee, two players were given 12-month bans from all ISSA-run competitions, while another was banned for three daCosta Cup games. The St. Catherine-based school was also placed on three years of probation.
A release from ISSA stated, “The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association reminds all its stakeholders that we are committed to ensuring that all our student-athletes display the requisite decorum befitting their status as ambassadors of our schools and the various competitions in which they compete. We strongly condemn any acts of indiscipline, particularly those involving physical aggression and/or assault on any match official.”
Maalick Whyte and Shamair Hutchinson have been barred from competing in all ISSA-run competitions for one year, effective September 26, 2024, while Tyrese Gowe has been suspended for three games, effective the same date.
Reports indicate that the players were involved in a confrontation with the referee after the game, and it was alleged that one of them physically assaulted the official.
Dinthill Technical was also placed on three years of probation, “and therefore may be suspended from participating in ISSA competitions if there are any further breaches of our disciplinary code of conduct during the probationary period,” the release from ISSA said.
