Kingston College kick-started celebrating its 100th year after winning the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup title on Friday, beating first-time finalists St Catherine High 3-1 at the National Stadium.
The famed Purples won the title for the 17th time, and it was their third hold in the last six times the competition was staged.
Coach Vassell Reynolds, who led Rusea’s High to the daCosta Cup title in 2011, joins a select group of men who have won both the Manning and daCosta Cups, including Patrick ‘Jackie’ Walters and Frank Brown.
It was the fourth time that Anthony Patrick, the St Catherine High coach, had lost in a Manning Cup final, the other three coming with Bridgeport High.
Kingston College led 2-0 at halftime and did not let up, leading 3-0 early in the second half before St Catherine was able to claw a goal back, giving them some hope.
Kingston College took the lead in the 36th minute when Jaeshawn Edwards headed home a cross at the far left post in the 36th minute and Demario Dailey doubled the advantage a minute into time added on in the first half when he fired home a cross from the right side.
Deshawn Byfield scored a third goal in the 54th minute, effectively putting the game out of reach of St Catherine High.
St Catherine were handed a slim lifeline in the 62nd minute when Byfield headed a corner past his goal-keeper.
