Manning Cup champions Kingston College rallied from a goal down to win the ISSA Olivier Shield for the 11th time overall and ninth outright hold, beating daCosta Cup champions Garvey Maceo High 4-3 on sudden-death penalties after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw in regulation and 3-3 in regular penalties.

After taking the lead with their first goal in three appearances in the playoff game, Garvey Maceo looked set to win their first hold on the Olivier Shield. However, luck was against them, as they conceded an own goal and then lost in the shootout.

It was their third straight game that ended in a penalty shootout, and they had won the previous two.

It was Kingston College coach Vassell Reynolds’ first taste of Olivier Shield victory after he lost with Rusea’s High in 2017. This win saw Kingston College add to their previous titles in 1949, 1952, 1957, 1964, 1965, 1975, 1986, and 2021 while sharing it with Dinthill Technical in 1981 and Rusea’s High in 1985.

Garvey Maceo, who were ‘shut-out’ in their two previous Olivier Shield games, scored their first goal in the competition when Omarian O’Brien latched on to a long ball played from Tyreek McKenley from the edge of their own 18 yards box, raced past Kingston College’s defender Kvist Paul before playing the ball between the legs of goalkeeper Dominic Robinson.

McKenley’s good afternoon turned for the worst when he rerouted a cross from Kingston College’s Damaine Smith past his goal-keeper in the 84th minute.

McKenley would also miss his penalty kick in the shootout.
