Western Bureau:Defending Manning Cup champions St George's College needed added time to earn a 1-1 draw in their opening match against Group C rivals Hydel High yesterday at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall, St James.
The Geoffrey Maxwell-coached Hydel spent almost the entire second half on the back-foot, as St George's pressured them with wave after wave of attacks.
Patrick Okwonko gave Hydel a 23rd-minute lead, when he headed home from point-blank range past Nico Campbell in the St George's goal, and could have doubled the lead, but another flashing header was saved by Campbell.
St George's who never looked like breaching the Hydel defence in the early action, dominated the entire second half before Romario Jones powered his right-footed shot past the Hydel goalkeeper in stoppage time to disappoint the small band of travelling Hydel supporters.
Okonkwo proved to be the danger man and should have scored from as early as the 15th minute, when his attacking header was charged down by the St George's defence, led by Rahim Harrison.
Hydel produced a workmanlike display and should feel they were hard done by the assistant referee's decision on the far side, when in the 69th minute, the St George's goalkeeper appeared to have carried the ball across the line as he made a save.

Hydel's industry in the first half was virtually non-existent in the second, as the Neville 'Bertis' Bell-coached St George's made camp inside their opponent's half of the field, allowing them little room for attacking forays.
That determination paid full dividends in the fourth minute of injury time as Jones flashed his shot into an open net after Campbell attacked the corner and the ball fell at the midfielder's feet.
"I feel it was a good game of football by both teams. I thought we had enough chances to score, but their goalkeeper did well today," said Bell after the final whistle.
"We have some work to do especially in midfield for our next match, but we are satisfied with the point."
