For the first time in the history of the ISSA Champions Cup competition, two schools from outside Kingston will contest the finals after Dinthill Technical and Clarendon College won their semi-final games against Jamaica College and Kingston College respectively at the stadium east field in Kingston on Saturday.
Clarendon College are into back-to-back finals after knocking out holders Kingston College 2-0 in the first game while Dinthill Technical held their nerves to beat Jamaica College 5-4 on penalties after playing out a 0-0 regulation time score.
There will be a first-time winner of the competition as neither Clarendon College nor Dinthill Technical has won the Champions Cup title before.
After just getting by Mannings School 1-0 in their first game, Kingston College struggled in front of goal on Saturday and paid for it as Clarendon College scored twice in the last five minutes of regulation to get some measure of revenge for their loss in the final in 2019.
Kaheim Dixon gave Clarendon College the lead in the 86th minute as he took full advantage of a series of errors by the Kingston College players, taking the ball from a defender then raced through the defense before toe poking the ball between the legs of goalkeeper David Martin.
Christopher Hull put the game out of reach of Kingston College in the 89th minute when he finished off a swift move that shredded the defense and beat the goalkeeper from close range.
Dinthill Technical had failed to score in a game for the first game all season but kept their cool to score all five penalties and sent Jamaica College to back to back exists in the semi-finals on penalties.
Jamaica College was beaten in the semi-final in 2019 on penalties by eventual champions Kingston College.
Jamaica College’s Michael Graham dragged his penalty wide for the only miss in the shoot-out.
Gary Mills, Tamish Richardson, Jaheim Thomas, Shamier Hutchinson, and Shameer Martin all scored for Dinthill Technical while Romaine Blake, Marlon Pennycooke, Duncan McKenzie, and Tarick Ximines were successful from the spot for Jamaica College.
The ISSA Champions Cup finals will be played next Saturday, January 15, 2021 at the Stadium East field.
