Anchovy High scored one of the biggest upsets in the new ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup season after beating Rusea’s High 1-0 in their Zone B first round game played at Anchovy on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Maliek Stephenson’s first half goal was the difference as the St James based school scored their first ever win over the many times champions and joined Frome Technical at the top of the tables on six points each.
After losing all their games in 2022, the last time they were in the daCosta Cup, Anchovy High are off to a fast start and are among a number of schools that have won back to back games to start the competition, including defending champions Clarendon College.
Clarendon College beat Lennon High 2-0 to join early leaders Central High on six points in Zone H but trails on goal-difference.
Mannings School raced to the top of Zone C after a 9-0 thrashing of neigbours Godfrey Stewart High while William Knibb Memorial were 5-0 winners over Holland High in Zone D where they join Spot Valley High who beat Cedric Titus 2-0, both on six points.
