Former champions St Elizabeth Technical and Dinthill Technical revived their chances of making progress to the quarterfinals of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after scoring 6-1 wins over Alphansus Davis High and Happy Grove High, respectively, in Round of 16 games on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

After playing out a 1-1 draw against Garvey Maceo on Saturday, STETHS took the lead in Zone 1 on goal difference after Justin McPherson led the way with a hat trick. At the same time, Deandre Barnett, Kaieem Lewis and Shemar Stewart also scored in their game played at the STETHS Sports Complex.

The win saw STETHS ease past Kemps Hill High, which played out a 0-0 draw with Garvey Maceo High at Foga Road.

Both STETHS and Kemps Hill, which beat Alphansus Davis High 5-0 in their first set of Round of 16 games on Saturday, are on four points, but the former champions boast a better goal difference.

Garvey Maceo is on two points.

There is a three-way tie for the lead in Zone 3 after Dinthill Technical beat Happy Grove High, also by a 6-1 margin. Rodain Reid and Raheem Harris both scored braces, while Omarion Small and Tyrese Gowe also got on the score sheet.

Dinthill Technical is joined by Glenmuir High and Ocho Rios, all on three points. The latter two teams meet on Wednesday.

The losses ended Alphansus Davis High and Happy Grove High’s chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals. They are now the first qualifiers for the first round of the Ben Francis KO.

In one other game yesterday, Kemps Hill High’s 0-0 draw against Garvey Maceo High saw them just missing qualification for the next round, as a win would have cemented their place in the final eight teams.
