Former Herbert Morrison Technical athlete Latesha Bigby will take a 57 points lead into Wednesday’s second day of the College women’s Pentathlon event at the 121st Penn Relays carnival in Philadelphia after a good start on Tuesday.
Bigby who is representing Northern Illinois University amassed 3197 points after four of the seven events, to lead Villanova’s Katherine Petruzzelis- 3140 with Claudette Day also of Northern Illinois in third place on 3134 points.
Bigby who also attended Butler Community College for two years won two of the four events contested on Tuesday, the 100m hurdles where she ran 13.79 seconds and the 200m where she clocked 25.12 seconds.
She tied for third in the high jump with 1.57m but was ninth in the shot put with 9.48m.
Three more events, the long jump, javelin throw and 800m run will come on Wednesday.
