Cornwall College became the third team to win their first five games in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition on Monday after beating Maldon High 4-1 in a rescheduled Zone A game played in muddy conditions at Maldon as the first round came to an end.
The record title holders joined defending champions Rusea’s High and former winners Garvey Maceo High as the schools to win their first five games, but Cornwall College had their run of clean sheets ended giving up a goal for the first time after going more than 400 minutes without conceding.
Aiden Jokomba got his second brace of the season, Shavon ‘Dada-dee’ McDonald scored another after Kavon McKenzie scored his first daCosta Cup goal to give Cornwall College the lead, avenging their upset loss at the venue last year.
Cornwall College leads Zone A with 15 points, six more than Green Pond and Anchovy High respectively, and was winning their first five games of the season for the third time in five seasons.
McKenzie, who was starting in the daCosta Cup for the first time, gave Cornwall College the lead in the 21st minute, Jokomba doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, and McDonald made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute, scoring in back to back games.
Jadon Appleton pulled one back for Maldon High in the 54th minute, but Jokomba completed his second double of the season when he got another goal in the 87th minute.
