Clarendon College won its ninth DaCosta Cup title and third in the last six seasons after beating Dinthill Technical 3-0 in the final played at the Montego Bay Sports Complex after winning back to back titles for the second time and first in 41 years.
Earl Simpson the team’s captain led by example when he opened the scoring in the 55th minute, Andre Nicholson who was a second-half substitute scored in the 81 st minute before Tajhay Williams finished things off three minutes into time added.
It was the first loss in the DaCosta Cup Dinthill in eight games since they beat McGrath High on October 12th to secure their place in the second round and the three goals on Saturday were more than the one goal they had conceded in the last eight games combined.
Dinthill had their moments in the first half but failed to cash in and paid for it in the second half when Clarendon College were able to regroup and take over the game.
Dinthill Technical’s goalkeeper Demero Hill did well to push a drive from Roderick Granville in the 45th minute and Chambers had a weak shot from eight yards blocked by a defender in time added.
Simpson headed them into the lead in the 55th minute, Nicholson who replaced Jaland Larman doubled the advantage in the 81 st when he shot powerfully past the Dinthill goalkeeper into the far left corner of the goal and Williams got the third goal in time added on when he finished off a good move by David Chambers powering the ball high into the goal.
