The four semi-finalists in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition will be decided this weekend, Friday and Saturday as the quarter-finals come to a close.
Ten of the 16 schools in the quarter-finals are still in with a mathematical chance of taking the four semi-finals but only four will be smiling comes Saturday afternoon.
The winners of the four quarter-final groups will qualify for the semi-finals as well as the ISSA Champions Cup KO while the second and third-place teams will play in the Ben Francis KO in January.
In Group 1- Joint leaders Dinthill Tech and Edwin Allen will meet on Friday in a winner-take game at Drax Hall.
Both are on six points from two wins but Dinthill Technical lead on goal-difference and a draw would see them through.
Group 2- Mannings School leads with six points and needs only a draw against second-placed Munro College to return to the semi-finals for the first time since 2005 when they lost to Glenmuir High.
Manning’s School is on six points, two more than Munro College who must win to deny the Westmoreland school.
Group 3- Three-way race led by STETHS and Garvey Maceo and could come down to goal difference.
Both STETHS and Garvey Maceo are on four points each with STETHS ahead on goal difference but will play Frome Technical who would go ahead with a win.
Garvey Maceo is in the drivers’ seat as they play St Thomas Technical who have already conceded 15 goals in their two games. Group 4- Two-time defending champions Clarendon College advances with only a draw against McGrath High in a repeat of the 2019 semi-final.
If there is a massive upset then either Cornwall College or Manchester High would need to win their game and advance on goal difference as two schools would end up six points.
A win for McGrath is unlikely however as they have conceded nine goals in their games against Cornwall College and Manchester High and are yet to score.
