Denbigh High School is the only semi-finalist in the ISSA Ben Francis Cup who has not won the title. They upset Munro College 3-1 in their quarter-final game at Manchester High on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
In one semi-final, Denbigh High will meet four-time winners Clarendon College. In contrast, six-time winners St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) will meet 2006 champions Frome Technical in the other game, which will be played early next week.
It was Denbigh High’s first qualification for the semi-finals of any ISSA Under 19 football competition, and they won an Under 14 title.
Lashawn Barnaby scored twice for Denbigh High, and Odane Thompson got the other in their win over Munro College, who were dumped out of the daCosta Cup a few days earlier and led 2-0 early in the second half.
Clarendon College beat Central High for the first time this season, 4-3 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in regulation after losing to them in the first round and drawing the return leg game 0-0.
Frome Technical, last season’s beaten finalists, ended a four-game winless run, edging Manchester High 1-0 at the STETHS Sports Complex, with Uriel Lemphard scoring the game’s only goal.
STETHS played most of the game with ten players after Kaieem Lewis was sent off in the first half but held on for a 0-0 draw before winning 9-8 in sudden death penalties in their game played at Llandilo.
