Fourteen of the 16 quarter-final slots in the ISSA DaCosta Cup competition have been taken after seven more schools claimed their places on Saturday as competition wrapped up in seven of the eight first-round groups.
St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS), Munro College booked their spots from Zone C, Manchester High, and Christiana from Zone D, Happy Grove, and St Thomas Technical advanced from Zone G while McGrath High joined early Dinthill Technical qualifiers from Zone H.
They joined the previous seven schools who had earlier booked their spots- William Knibb Memorial and Cornwall College from Zone A, Manning’s School and Frome Technical from Zone B, and Garvey Maceo High and Vere Technical from Zone F.
STETHS who played with 10 men, topped Zone C after Zamario Douglas’ goal was enough to get past Lacovia High 1-0 and they moved to 16 points, comfortably ahead of Munro College who were beaten 1-0 by BB Coke and finished on 12 points.
Manchester High and Christiana High played out a 0-0 draw to take both Zone D spots, both on 14 points, one more than Holmwood Technical who beat Belair High 4-2 in their game.
Manchester High are the zone winners with a superior goal- difference.
Happy Grove topped Zone G with 13 points after beating Seaforth High 2-1 with St Thomas Tech taking the runner up spot with 11 points after beating Port Antonio High 2-0.
McGrath High whipped St Mary’s High 9-0 at at Lynch Park with three players Cavauni Gowdie, Tyrese Wright and Justin Taylor scored doubles to take the runner up spot in Zone H behind Dinthill Technical.
McGrath advanced on goal-difference ahead of Charlemont High who beat York Castle High 4-2 as both finished on 11 points.
