Green Pond High surprised Cornwall College beating the many-time champions 2-1 at Cornwall College as they made their delayed start to the ISSA DaCosta Cup football competition on Saturday.
The game was tied 1-1 half time before Wayne Gordon scored a penalty in the 63rd minute and Braxton Richards should have brought Cornwall back into the game a second time but he missed his penalty kick 20 minutes later, hitting the crossbar.
Oshari Ellis gave Green Pond High the lead in the 10th minute but Richards levelled the scores in the 21st minute with his second goal of the season.
Green Pond whose first game against Anchovy had to be postponed on Wednesday was beating Cornwall College for only the second time since the 2013 season.
In 12 meetings between the teams between the 2014 and 2019 seasons Cornwall College outscored them 36-7.
Also in Zone A, goals from Romaine Harwood and Kenou Gram saw St James High beat Anchovy High 2-0 for their first win.
Meanwhile Former champions St Elizabeth Technical and Dinthill Technical and Mannings School all rolled to their third straight wins while Rusea’s High and Edwin Allen had back-to-back victories.
Dantae Campbell scored his second goal of the season and Nickardo Smith got his first as STETHS beat Maggotty High 2-0 in Zone E as they raced to nine points.
Two-time winners Dinthill Technical had the biggest win of the day beating Enid Bennett 10-0 to assume the lead in Zone K after McGrath High who had also won their first two games, were beaten 2-0 by Charlemont High.
Jhamaleek Porter scored twice and Abeen Wallace got the other, both players scoring in all three games as Mannings beat Godfrey Stewart 3-1.
Shamour Smith scored back-to-back hat tricks as he led Rusea’s High to another 7-0 win, beating Hopewell High at the Orchard Grounds in Hopewell in Zone B.
Deonjay Brown, Alaqa Logan, Terome Morgan and Dameni Gordon scored the other goals for Rusea’s High.
Ben Francis KO holders Edwin Allen also made it two wins from two starts, beating Lennon High 4-1 with goals from Kimalar Fearon, Tajay Thomas, Jevaughan McLellan and Patrick Harrison while Kemoy Lloyd scored for Lennon High.
Frome Technical made a grand start with a 9-0 thrashing of Merlene Ottey High as Ackeem Kangol led the way with a hat-trick, Stevon Spence got a brace while Kemar Beckford, Javel Clarke, Dwayne Watt and Demar Williams also got on the score sheet.
Clarendon College were 7-0 winners over Kellits High in their opening game while Glenmuir High beat Denbigh High 3-1 as Orane Watson, Deandre Johnson and Tajaun Cummings scored for the winners and Dunsting Cohen got Denbigh’s goal.
