Happy Grove High and McGrath High qualified for the semi-finals of the ISSA Ben Francis Cup for the first time after scoring 1-0 quarter-final wins over Christiana High and Manchester High on Thursday respectively.
They will join former champions STETHS and Frome Technical who were also winners, beating Cornwall College and BB Coke High respectively in the semi-finals set for next week.
Shevon Miller’s 18th minute penalty was enough for Happy Grove High to beat Christiana High to book their spot in the last four while McGrath High also got by Manchester High by the same scoreline.
At the STETHS Sports Complex, the ‘home team’ outscored seven time champions Cornwall College 4-3 in a game that saw the lead change hands four times.
Najay Brown gave STETHS the lead in the eighth minute but Cornwall College equalised from the penalty spot in the 11th minute through Deshaun Talbert and then took the lead for the first time when Dane Buckley scored in the 26th minute.
Shemar Stewart levelled for STETHS in the 38th minute as they went to the half time break tied at 2-2.
Cornwall College were back in the lead in the 48th minute when Deshawn Evans scored but STETHS pulled even again in the 57th minute when Nicardo Smith scored from a corner and substitute Wallace grabbed the winner two minutes into time added.
At Llandilo, Stevaugn Spence scored a brace for Frome Technical to beat 2019 champions BB Coke’s season and took his team a step closer to a second hold on the trophy.
