Hydel High School defeated Charlie Smith 1-0 in Manning Cup action at the Royal Lakes Football Field on Saturday, September 23, 2023.
Andre Bogle of Charlie Smith was a brick wall between the sticks as Hydel kept knocking on the door but could not break it down. The brilliance of the goalkeeper and the stubbornness of the defense held firm for the first half as they entered the interval at 0-0.
The second half followed suit as Hydel kept wasting their chances and Bogle continued his spectacular performance to keep the home team at bay. However, Gabriel Sebourne scored a peach of a goal to break the resilience of Charlie Smith High in the 90th minute and secured all 3 points for Hydel. The game ended 1-0 in favor of Hydel High.
Other results from the Zone saw Kingston College hammer Penwood High 14-0 and Calabar High pounding Camperdown 5-2.
Zone E action saw Mona High edge St. Catherine High 2-1 to move atop the leaderboard. Holy Trinity came out victors 5-4 in a goal fest versus Edith Dalton James and Norman Manley defeated St Mary’s College.
