Irwin High proved their good start was no fluke after coming from behind to beat Cornwall College 2-1 in their ISSA daCosta Cup Zone A game played at Irwin High on Tuesday.
Late goals from Leo Campbell and Fabian Grey took Irwin High to their first win over the many-time champions since 2008 and opened up a five points lead in the zone.
Irwin High are in uncharted waters after, winning their first four games for the first time ever as well as leading the competitive Zone A.
Two other former champions, Rusea’s High and Herbert Morrison also fell on Tuesday, beaten by Frome Technical and William Knibb respectively.
Rusea’s High had their three games winning start cut short, beaten 3-0 by Frome in Lucea.
Frome led 1-0 at halftime thanks to an own goal and Stevaughn Spence and Javel Clarke added second-half goals as they took over the lead in Zone B on a superior goal difference with both schools on nine points each but Frome has also played one game less.
William Knibb also continued their torrid start with a 10-0 hammering of ‘Compre with Mark Lewis scoring four times, Tajay Cooper scored a hattrick, Theonjae Bennett had two goals and Keven Clarke scored the other for William Knibb to run their record to three wins.
Cedric Titus kept pace with William Knibb in Zone C after edging Spot Valley High 2-1.
Maldon High won for the first time in two years, beating Anchovy High 4-1 with two goals from Chadrain Senior and one each from Brian Ambersley and Nicholas Drummond.
