Kingston, Jamaica – November 14, 2023 – The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) is excited to announce the dates for the highly anticipated Schoolboy Football Finals. This year’s finals are set to bring an exhilarating experience to football fans across the nation.
Event Schedule:
- Walker Cup and Manning Cup Finals: Friday, December 8, 2023, at the National Stadium.
- Ben Francis Cup and DaCosta Cup Finals: Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the National Stadium.
- Olivier Shield Final: Wednesday, December 13, 2023, slated for the rural area (venue to be determined).
Rationale Behind the Scheduling:
ISSA President Mr. Keith Wellington explains the reasoning behind the schedule and venue selections.
“In general, the venues available in rural areas are not able to host football matches of the expected magnitude of this year’s Schoolboy Football finals,” he stated, addressing the practical challenges of rural venues. This is particularly so with the continued unavailability of the Catherine Hall Complex.
Mr. Wellington further added, “We thought that creating an exciting weekend of football would be in the interest of our fans and players alike.” This decision aims to enhance the overall experience for everyone involved, concentrating the excitement into a memorable weekend of high-stakes football.
Venue Selection:
The choice of the National Stadium for the bulk of this year’s finals underscores ISSA’s commitment to providing the best possible experience for both players and spectators. The venue for the Olivier Shield will be announced shortly, and will reflect ISSA’s dedication to inclusive and widespread engagement in Schoolboy Football.
