Mt Pleasant FA extended its winning run in the Jamaica Premier League by blanking defending champions Cavalier FC 3-0 in their second-round game at Drax Hall on Thursday. This was the team’s 10th straight victory, tying a record held by Arnett Gardens.
The Theodore Whitmore coached team improved to 46 points, six better than Montego Bay United which took over sole possession of second place after coming from a goal down to beat Humble Lion while Arnett Gardens slipped into third place on 38 points after being held goal-less at home by Molynes United.
On Wednesday, Portmore Unites had moved into fourth place after beating Chapelton Maroons 3-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, their third straight win.
At Drax Hall, Jahshaun Anglin gave the home team the lead in the 10th minute, Daniel Green added a second in the 25th minute before Franco Celestin came off the bench to score in back to back games when he added the third goal in the 77th minute to cement the win.
In Montego Bay, Shaniel Thomas scored a second-half double, and Montego Bay United scored three times in the final 18 minutes plus time added to beat Humble Lion for the first time this season.
Stephen Barrett gave Humble Lion the lead against the run of play in the 33rd minute. Despite the visitors trying to slow down the game in the second half, the home team roared back to snatch all three points.
After missing an easy chance, Thomas tapped in the equalizer in the 72nd minute and then headed Montego Bay United into the lead seven minutes later.
Daniel Reid, an 89th-minute substitute, added a third with his second touch of the game, curling a left-footer past goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel in time added.
Jermie Lynch scored on his return to the Jamaica Premier League after more than a year out with injury when he got a brace to lead Portmore United to a 3-0 win over Chapelton Maroons on Wednesday.
Romeo Guthrie gave Portmore United the lead in the 38th minute, and Lynch, who replaced Tarick Ximines in the 59th minute, scored in the 79th and 84th minutes to secure the win.
Waterhouse FC won back-to-back games, getting by Harbour View thanks to a 13th-minute penalty strike from Andre Fletcher, who scored his eighth goal of the season. Racing United snapped a nine-game winless run with a win over Tivoli Gardens. Tajay Grant scored in the 26th minute, his third straight game running he had scored, while Nickyle Ellis doubled the advantage in the 29th minute.
Racing United played most of the game with 10 players after Carlyle Holmes was sent off in the 41st minute.
Vere United moved to 10th place in the tables after sharing points with Dunbeholden FC at Dunbeholden Sports Complex.
Michael Graham scored for Vere United in the seventh minute, but Dean Andre Thomas drew Dunbeholden level with a goal in the 21st minute.
