It took an added-time goal from the league’s top scorer Trivante Stewart, but 10-man Mt Pleasant got the better of a tough Humble Lion 1-0 in their Jamaica Premier League game played at Drax Hall on Sunday.
Mt Pleasant lost defensive stalwart Jamoi Topey in the 54th minute but was still able to grind out a win that saw them increase their lead over Cavalier to five points.
The Tappa Whitmore-coached Mt Pleasant is on to 27 points with Cavalier who play a day later in second place on 22 while Humble Lion who had ended two games winning run, is in third place on 20 points.
Dunbeholden FC picked up a point from their 0-0 draw against Chapleton Maroons to be in fifth place on 19 points, the same as defending champions Harbour View who have played a game less.
Waterhouse came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Portmore United who led from the 69th minute with a goal from Jevick McFarlane.
Shaquiel Bradford equalized for Waterhouse in the 88th minute.
Vere United earned their first win of the season edging winless Faulkland 1-0 at Wespow Park as Lamard Neil scored the winner in time added on in the second half.
Faulkland FC who were coming off a credible 0-0 draw away to Arnett Gardens wasted a handful of good scoring chances.
It was a bad day for football fans in western Jamaica as Montego Bay United were beaten 3-0 by Tivoli who got two early goals, from Rodico Wellington in the 12th and 15th minutes while Barrington Pryce added one from the penalty spot in the 88th minute.
