Maldon High booked its first-ever second-round spot in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition while defending champions Clarendon College, three former champions, Central High, and Denbigh High all booked their spots on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

In a dramatic end to the Zone A return round game played at the Granville Community Centre, Maldon High, who needed a draw to edge Green Pond High on goal difference, came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw off the final kick of the game, with time added.

Both teams ended with 19 points, but Maldon High had a plus-8 goal difference to Green Pond High’s plus-5.

Garth Dane Bromwell gave Green Pond an 85th-minute lead, beating goalkeeper Lajaun Birch at his near post, but late second-half substitute Domonique Clarke wrote his name in Maldon High football history when he scored in the fifth and final minute of time added to give his school a historic berth in the second round.

Denbigh High punched their ticket the hard way, avenging their first-round loss to Clarendon College. They won 2-1 at Denbigh, only their second win over the many-time champions and first since 2013.

Central High edged Lennon High 3-2 to take over the lead in Zone H with 19 points, followed by Clarendon’s 18 points and Denbigh High’s 16 points.

Stevaughn Spence scored a hat trick for Frome Technical as they beat Anchovy High 3-0 to move to 23 points in Zone B. Rusea’s joined them after a 1-0 win over Green Island High, on 20 points, both with a game in hand.

STETHS ended their schedule on Zone E on a high with a 2-1 win over early qualifiers and zone winners Munro College at STETHS to book their spot in the Round of 32.
