Munro College are back in the quarterfinals of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition for the first time in 17 years after they beat two-time defending champions Clarendon College 2-1 at Munro College on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

Munro College, which beat Clarendon College for the first time in eleven years, won back-to-back games in Zone 2 of the Round of 16 and is certain to make progress to the last eight.

Glenmuir High, Central High, and McGrath High are also through after scoring consecutive wins.

After beating Cornwall College for the first time in 43 years in their first game of the round, Munro College advanced to the quarterfinal for the first time since the 2007 season. Antwone Smith scored his second brace of the round after the teams were tied at 1-1 at halftime.

Last season’s beaten finalists, Glenmuir High, continued to cruise as Orane Watson, Nyron Allen, and Nuemonie Blackwood scored in their 3-0 win over Ocho Rios in their Group 3 encounter played at Glenmuir High.

It was their fifth consecutive game without conceding a goal.

Central High, the 2022 beaten finalists, edged Denbigh High 1-0, as Antwone Wright scored the game-winner. McGrath High, the 2019 semi-finalists and Ben Francis KO holders had a similar win over Manchester High, with Jim Mitchell scoring his eighth goal of the campaign.

Central High and McGrath High will meet on Saturday to decide the zone winners.

In the other game played yesterday, Frome Technical stayed on course for a quarterfinal place after edging Cornwall College 1-0 in their Zone 2 game played at Jarrett Park.

After giving up a late goal against Clarendon College on Saturday and being held to a draw, Frome Technical grabbed all three goals against Cornwall College, with Dwayne Watts’s diving header in the 26th minute making the difference.
