Ocho Rios High looks to be on a mission after yet another gritty performance and a first-ever qualification for the semi-finals of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after beating Garvey Maceo High 2-0 at Drax Hall on Saturday, November 16, 2024, to top their quarter-final group.
After their miraculous escape in the previous round, scoring in time added to earn a 2-2 draw and edged Dinthill Technical for a quarter-final place, they ambushed Garvey Maceo with goals from Robert Morris in the first half and Keanu Reid in the second half.
Ocho Rios topped Group B with five points, one more than Garvey Maceo High, which, in turn, edged Munro College on goal difference after both finished with four points.
Glenmuir High topped Group A with nine points after spanking STETHS 5-2 and will be joined by McGrath High, who also edged STETHS on goal difference for second place.
The semi-final game between Ocho Rios High and 2019 semi-finalists McGrath High will ensure a first-time final, while Glenmuir High and Garvey Maceo will renew rivalries in the other semi-final.
On a day of frenzied football and upsets, Orane Watson scored twice for early qualifiers Glenmuir High to take his goal tally for the season to 31; Orel Miller opened the scoring with his 17th of the season while Conroy Nicely and second-half substitute Ricardo Binns also scored while Justin McPherson and Shemmar Stewart had scored late to rekindle some hope for STETHS.
Jim Mitchell scored twice, and Issac Mason and Shane Pusey scored one. McGrath High beat Frome Technical 4-0 at Dinthill Technical, and they rebounded from their loss to Glenmuir earlier in the week.
Munro College rebounded from their loss at Garvey Maceo earlier in the week with a 3-1 win over Central High at Munro but came up just short.
