One Round of 16 spots is left to be filled in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after five schools joined the party on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. This brings the number of teams that will play in the third round of the competition to 15.
After starting with over 80 teams almost two months ago, the competition is almost down to the last 16, which is expected to get even more interesting.
On Wednesday, former winners Munro College, Dinthill Technical, and Frome Technical, along with Central High and Alphansus Davis High, joined the 10 other teams that had punched their tickets to the Round of 16.
Munro College topped Group 4 on goal difference after beating Maldon High 5-0 at Munro College, with Antwoine Smith leading the way with a hat trick.
Munro College, which lost to Browns Town on Saturday, edged Alphansus Davis High, which also amassed six points after beating Browns Town High 2-0 in their game.
Giovanni Afflick also scored a hat trick for Dinthill Technical, which romped to a big 8-0 win over Yallahs High at York Oval. Rodain Reid, Tyrese Gowe, Raphael Smith, Omanie Morrison, and an own goal also got on the score sheet. With five points, Dinthill Technical finished second in Group 6.
Dinthill Technical scored for the first time in the Round of 32 after drawing their first two games 0-0.
Central High topped the group with seven points after beating Port Antonio High 5-2 in their game played at Glenmuir High in May Pen.
A 0-0 draw at Llandilo was enough for Ocho Rios High to join early qualifiers Frome Technical as the teams advancing from Group 2.
Frome Technical topped the zone with seven points, while Ocho Rios ended with five points.
