Seven schools including former champions Dinthill Technical who were not in action, qualified for the Round of 32 in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Spot Valley High, Holmwood Tech, Titchfield High, McGrath High, Dinthill Technical, Paul Bogle and Yallahs High joined the other nine schools that had previously punched their tickets to the next round.
Orlando Wilson scored a brace to lead Spot Valley High to a 4-1 win over Holland High while Keyanta Clarke and Tyreek Kirlew scored the other goals in their Zone D return round game played at Holland High on Tuesday.
The win, Spot Valley High’s seventh of the season, took them to 23 points and guarantees them a place in the Round of 32 with a game to go.
The St James based school was returning to the second round for the first time since the 2017 season.
Holmwood Tech were 2-0 winners over Bellefield High, improving to 22 points to join Christiana High as the first qualifiers from Zone G.
Charlemont High were eliminated from contention in Zone J after they were beaten 4-1 by McGrath High who advanced to the second round along with Dinthill Technical.
McGrath High leads the zone with 14 points while Dinthill Technical are on 11 points with a game in hand.
Paul Bogle High’s 1-0 win over Morant Bay High ensured they and Yallahs High who were beaten 2-1 by early qualifiers Happy Grove, would get the two remaining spots from Zone L.
Happy Grove moved to 24 points from eight straight wins with both Paul Bogle High and Yallahs High next on 15 points each.
Titchfield High came from a goal down to beat St Mary Technical 2-1 to join Pt Antonio High from Zone M.
Aldane Walsh gave St Mary Tech the lead in the 14th minute but Titchfield responded with a goal from Bryan Williams in the 66th minute with Riquelme Brown scoring the winner in the 68th minute.
