St Catherine High qualified for their first ever ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup final after beating many time champions Jamaica College 5-3 on penalties in the semi-final at the national stadium on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 and advanced to Friday’s final.
It was another first for the school after they had qualified for the ISSA/Wata Champions Cup earlier.
The teams had played out a 1-1 draw after regulation time before the Anthony Patrick coached St Catherine High held their nerves to score all of their kicks from the spot.
They had played out another 1-1 draw in their Round of 16 meeting, under different circumstances.
It was back to back losses to end the season that promised much for Jamaica College after they were beaten in Saturday’s Champions Cup final by Glenmuir High at the same venue.
St Catherine High took the lead on Tuesday when Romaine Walters scored from the penalty spot in the 12th minute but Nashordo Gibbs scored his first goal of the season when he equalised in the 41st minute, tapping in a cross from Jamoy Dennis from the left wing.
St Catherine High led 4-3 on penalties when Jamaica College’s Jahmarly Bennett hit the cross bar with his shot and Kadean Young scored his kick to secure the win.
