Title-holders St George’s College will hunt their second win today, when they play away to Dunoon at Breezy Castle Sports Complex.
In one of three Group C matches in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup football competition.
The Georgians, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Hydel in their opening game of the season, rebounded to record a come-from-behind 5-1 win over Denham Town last Friday and their assistant coach, Marcel Gayle, is looking forward to further improvements.
“We are not flowing as we are accustomed to, but the season is young. Come tomorrow we hope to see improvements in our play,” Gayle told The Gleaner yesterday.
He added: “Dunoon lost their first two games, but having said that we don’t plan to take them lightly as the intention is to get the most out of the game as we can.”
Among the players expected to lead St George’s charge are former national Under-17 representatives, midfielders Romario Jones, Andre Lewis and Cordell Benbow, and forward Oshane Boothe.
Dunoon, coached by Omar Edwards, lost their first match 3-0 to Clan Carthy, before going down 8-0 away to Hydel in their second.
Hydel, in the meantime, which is coached by Geoffery Maxwell, will also be aiming for their second win when they play away to Cumberland.
“We are hoping to go into the game and come away with a win, but like anything in football anything is possible,” said Maxwell.
“Credit to Cumberland; they have played one game already and they have won and will think that they have a good chance against us.
“But we are ready, if you look at our games, and as such are looking forward to win and maintain our lead in the group,” he added.
Captain Errol McNeil and Vice-Captain Omar Walcott are again expected to lead the charge for Hydel.
Cumberland defeated Denham Town 2-0 at home in their only fixture to date.
Clan Carthy will host Denham Town at Alpha Boys in the group’s other matchup.
