Former champions Saint Elizabeth Technical and Garvey Maceo High were winners on Wednesday as they opened their ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup Round of 32 schedule, beating William Knibb Memorial and Christiana High, respectively.
STETHS beat William Knibb 2-0 in Santa Cruz to take the lead in Group 3. Manchester High ended Mannings School’s perfect record with a 1-0 win at Llandilo. Shermaiah Solman scored the winner in the 35th minute.
Garvey Maceo High won 1-0 over Christiana High 1-0 in their Group 8 game played at Brooks Park. They are second on goal difference to McGrath High, which had a big 8-1 win over St Mary High at the Ewarton Sports Complex.
There were also wins for Paul Bogle High and Happy Grove High.
Paul Bogle High blanked Titchfield High 3-0 to take over the lead in Group 7 as Happy Grove edged Holmwood Technical 3-2 in their Group 5 game played at Carder Park thanks to a double from Bonny Chisholm who also got the winner in time added.
Chisholm gave Happy Grove the lead after 22 minutes, and Kyeill Grant doubled the advantage in the 60th minute before Holmwood staged a rally and drew level.
Lerone Stewart scored in the 68th minute to pull Holmwood Technical one goal back, and Oraine Brown drew them level in the 79th minute.
Chisholm, however, scored the winner in the fifth minute of time added.
Both games played at Jarrett Park ended in 1-1 scorelines. Browns Town came from a goal down to draw with Maldon High, while Cornwall College rallied for a 1-1 draw against Kemps Hill High in the second game.
