Trevontie Stewart tormented his former club Molynes United as he scored a hat trick to lead Mt Pleasant FA to a 5-0 win in their Jamaica Premier League game played at Drax Hall on Wednesday and took over the lead in the points tables.
Stewart, who plied his trade with Molynes United last year, scored two penalty kicks in his ‘trick’ as the St Ann based club rushed to 17 points with four straight wins and leapfrogged over defending champions Harbour View to take the lead.
Harbour View is in second place on 15 points, followed by Cavalier FC and Humble Lion on 13, one more than Montego Bay United, while Portmore United and Arnett Gardens are both on 11 points each.
The ‘Tappa’ Whitmore coached Mt Pleasant FA led Molynes United 2-0 at halftime, and the visitors ended the game with 10 players after Tyrese Winter was sent off midway through the second half after striking a Mt. Pleasant FA player in the face.
Stewart gave Mt Pleasant the lead in the 27th minute, from the penalty spot, while Kimonie Bailey, a first half substitute, made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute.
Stewart scored his second goal in the 64th minute to give Mt. Pleasant FA a 3-0 lead, and Leonardo Jibbison scored his first of the season to make it 4-0 in the 73rd minute.
Stewart completed his hat trick in the 90th minute when he scored from the penalty spot for the second time in the game.
Humble Lion won their third straight 1-0 game, with Shamari Dallas scoring in the 46th minute to take them to a win over Tivoli Gardens, who were losing their third game in their last four outings.
Portmore United won for the second time in three games and moved into the top six after coming from behind to beat Faulkland 3-1.
Husana Johnson gave the St. James club the lead in the 13th minute, his second goal of the season, but Rushaun Thompson leveled the scores in the 27th minute.
Emelio Rousseau gave Portmore United the lead after 60 minutes and Jevick McFarlane added a fourth goal in the 75th minute.
Montego Bay United were denied three points after Courtney Allen had given them a lead late in the game, in the 85th minute as Rohane Brown scored in the 89th minute for Chapleton Maroons to earn a point.
