St. George’s College firmly placed a foot into the Manning Cup quarterfinals after easily dispatching St. Jago High 2-0. STGC took the lead in the 29th minute through a deflected shot from Zabir Taylor that wrong footed the goalkeeper and crept in.
Matthew Rhule doubled the Georgian’s lead in the second half after beating his defender and slamming home. The second leg will be played at St. George’s College on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
The second game of the doubleheader at the Spanish Town Prison Oval saw Mona High hammer Jonathan Grant 4-0. Kshaine Gordon opened the scoring after just 7 seconds when he slotted home from close range through the legs of goalkeeper Sheldon York.
Romarion Thomas added flair and goals to the game when he turned on the styles to entertain the fans. He later turned his tricks into goals with a quick-fire double to extend Mona High’s lead to 3-0 just before the end of the first half.
The second half started differently as the home team Jonathan Grant came out of the gates flying but failed to make their chances count. Denzil McKenzie swept home from close range to knock the wind out the sails of Jonathan Grant High and extend Mona High’s lead to 4-0.
Kingston College silenced Campion College with the comeback of the season, Campion College took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. The game was defined as a game of two halves as Kingston College rallied to win 3-2. Demario Dailey led the resurgence and was awarded Man of the Match.
St. Andrew Technical High School dispatched Kingston Technical High 4-0 as they remain perfect and prepare to go one further this season as they aim for title success. Led by Captain Richard Livingston and the experienced Alex Gooden, STATHS made light work of KTHS.
The defending champions Jamaica College defeated Eltham High 3-0 at Eltham High School.
St Catherine High defeated Wolmer’s Boys 2-0 at home with goals from Dwight Gentles and Kadean Young.
Hydel High was held at home to a goalless draw by a spirited Excelsior High and a rematch of last season’s Walker Cup final ended in a stalemate after a solid defensive display by Haile Selassie and Tivoli Garden High.
The second leg of the knockout will be played on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
